The team discuss the impact this powerful movie had on them following a team evening out at the Stroud Film Society. At this showing Jeff stood up and delivered an introductory speech on the growing reverence for this particular conflict. He discusses the rise of three rules/recurring themes that have come to define all movies regarding WWI. These rules can be loosely be defined as:

  • The pointlessness of this particular war.
  • The class system and in particular the lack of thought, planning or acceptance of responsibility by the aristocracy, who made up the officer class.
